Thomas Lim

Thomas LimThomas Lim, 15, currently studies with Jonathan Koh at the California Music Preparatory Academy. Thomas has performed at Carnegie Hall twice and made his debut at age 14 in February 2016. He is an avid chamber musician, and is currently studying chamber music at the California Music Preparatory Academy, where he has volunteered extensively in hospitals and retirement communities. Former member of an award winning cello quartet, Thomas is currently in a Piano Trio, which actively performs and competes around the Bay Area. Thomas has won multiple awards, including first place at the American Fine Arts Festival, the Diablo Valley College/Holy Names University (DVC/HNU) Young Artists’ Concerto Competition, the Korea Times Youth Music Competition, Diablo Symphony Orchestra Yen Liang Concerto Competition, Junior Bach Festival, San Francisco Youth Talent Competition, US Open Music Competition, Saratoga High School Concerto Competition, and has been a prizewinner in competitions including the New York International Artists Association Cello Competition, United States Open Music Competition, the Korea Times Youth Music Competition, KAMSA Competition, Nova Vista Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, American Protege International Romantic Music Competition, and the American Protege International Concerto Competition. Thomas was a semifinalist at the Mondavi Young Artists Competition. He has also participated in Chamber Music in the Bay, and also was a member of the 2016 Korean-American Music Supporters Association (KAMSA) Orchestra. Thomas’s previously studied with Dr. Minja Hyun, professor at Yonsei University, in Seoul, Korea. Thomas studied at the prestigious Meadowmount School of Music in the summers of 2015 and 2016.

Thomas is a sophomore at Saratoga High School, and is an active leader in his school’s music community. Thomas currently mentors in Saratoga High School’s Music Education (MESH) Program, and is an officer for the Saratoga High School Tri-M Honors Music Society. In his free time, Thomas enjoys playing sports, composing/arranging music, listening to music, and playing piano.
