RULES OF THE CONCERTO COMPETITION

ELIGIBILITY: Open to soloists born after March 26, 1987 (i.e. less than 23 years old). An applicant may not be employed full time as a professional musician. Documentation of age and/or employment may be required at the discretion of the coordinator.
REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must submit a cassette tape or CD of 10 - 12 minutes total from contrasting movements of a concerto for possible selection to compete on January 9, 2010.
REGISTRATION: Send the non-refundable $25 application fee, the completed application form, a tape or CD, and a stamped self-addressed envelope (for return of the tape or CD) to the competition coordinator.
DEADLINE: The application and the tape or CD must be postmarked by November 30, 2009.
SCHEDULE: Tapes or CDs will be reviewed to determine which applicants qualify for the competition. Competition acceptance will be announced by December 11, 2009. A scheduled time for each contestant and map of the route to the competition site will be mailed at that time.
COMPETITION: A warm up room will be available for all contestants. Also, each contestant will provide, if needed, his/her own accompanist. At the competition the music must be performed from memory and be a minimum of 15 minutes in length.
JUDGES: Judges’ decision is final
AWARD: First Prize: $1000 Honorarium and a contract to perform a previously auditioned composition in concert with the Diablo Symphony Orchestra on March 26, 2010 at Del Valle Club House in Rossmoor and March 28, 2010 at the Dean Lesher Regional Center for the Arts, Walnut Creek CA.

Second Prize: $500 and an award plaque.
AUDIENCE: Contestants are encouraged to invite friends and relatives to the competition. No one may enter or leave during a performance.
